The Nine Chambered Heart by Janice Pariat

First and foremost, I LOOOOOOVED THIS BOOK !! Now that I have got that out of my system, let me tell you exactly why this book made me cry in joy.

A girl, that we know nothing about is slowly revealed to us, as various aspects of her character unfolds like a little box of wonder wrapped in glossy paper. This unfolding is done by the different people that she has encountered throughout her life and that is the whole beauty of this book that seems more like a colourful painting on a blank canvas.

Every human being interprets and understands human behaviour in their own way and that is what Janice Pariat effortlessly emphasises through this literary piece. I connected to the characters in the book on a very personal level and saw myself in each of their traits. That’s the beauty of The Nine Chambered Heart. It gives you a faceless, nameless woman coupled with a nameless city and you instantly have the desire to get lost in that world where social identity is not the only way to get to know someone.

I could sit and compare this book to a whole lot of different poetic metaphors and yet, my recommendation wouldn’t be enough. If you enjoy reading books that take you on a self-discovering journey yet keeps the reading at a fast pace then this book is perfect for you.

If you have read this book, do let me know what you thought about it. πŸ™‚
